For their next friendly outing, Tottenham Hotspur battled it out against the Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim, in a club friendly clash ahead of the new season. This clash took place at Tottenham Hotspur’s training centre.

Both of these clubs came up with a complete change of squad this time around. The Spurs secured a 3-0 victory against Hoffenheim just yesterday. Many young players got a chance to represent their respective clubs in what was an intense outing.

Due to an early defensive error, Tottenham gave away an early spot kick to their opponents and they were quick to take the lead. The Roberto De Zerbi-led side battled hard in the first half and took the lead in the 45+2′. The Bundesliga club did not back down and, despite lesser ball control, secured a draw against the Lilywhites.

Even though many top stars were absent from Tottenham’s lineup, they managed pretty well in the final third. With young talent gaining valuable minutes, the Spurs continued to create chances with the help of quick combinations and intelligent movement in the final third.

2. Youth talent steps up

Luca Williams-Barnett played a crucial role in helping Tottenham Hotspur secure a draw. Pape Matar Sarr came up with a sharp assist in the final third and the 17-year-old scored the second goal for the Spurs. Roberto De Zerbi opted to start Williams-Barnett and he will be impressed with the performance here.

3. Hoffenheim’s improved attack

The Bundesliga side failed to control the tempo of the game, but came up with a far more attacking threat than in their goalless performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday. Their high-pressing helped them bag two goals this time around and kept the Lilywhites on edge at all times.

4. Poor defensive approach

Neither of these sides looked sharp when it was time to defend. Without Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke as the centre-backs, Tottenham Hotspur conceded two goals. On the other hand, Hoffenheim have conceded five goals in their last two matches and this can be concerning for them ahead of the new season. Spurs were without many of their top stars and they still managed to find the net twice.

Playing back-to-back games in the matter of two days is not an easy task for any football team. Both of these clubs were tested on various levels and they know what to fix ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Tottenham Hotspur had a problem with their squad depth last season, but it was tested against a quality Bundesliga side this time around. They secured an easy win in their first one, but without top stars, they kind of struggled today.
