The BVB boss insists there were a lot of positives from their home loss on Tuesday.

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund stumbled to a 4-0 aggregate defeat by Tottenham Hotspur but the Black and Yellows boss Lucian Favre insists that there were a lot of optimistic events in the 1-0 home defeat to the Lilywhites.

Harry Kane's goal at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday not only meant that BVB were out of the UEFA Champions League but also that the German club failed to score a single goal in the Round of 16.

BVB are going through a patchy phase lately, having won just one of the last eight games in all competitions. Yet Favre said that there were plenty of positive takeaways.

"All in all, it was a very good match. There were a lot of positives in the first half," he said.

"We might've lost 1-0 but the chance to qualify for the next round was lost in the first leg rather than the home fixture. I'll take a lot of positives. For me, there was only one team out there in the first half. We need to continue playing like that," Favre said.

Out of the 19 attempts, BVB had seven shots on goal but unfortunately failed to score at all.

"We showed a very good first-half performance with six goalscoring chances. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a goal. We wanted to continue in that vein but then conceded a goal after three or four minutes in the second half and knew that it would then be very difficult as we needed five goals," he said.

The captain of the team, Marco Reus believed that his team could turn around a comeback, but they needed to score in the first half to have a chance for it.

"We needed a goal before half-time, we did not make it," he said.

"We had an incredible number of chances to score, but [Hugo Lloris] also did very well. We can build on the performance of the first half, which was strong after the setback to Augsburg," said the captain.

Dortmund had a comfortable 10 point lead in December 2018 over Bayern Munich but now they are tied at 54 points and just a mere +2 goal difference is keeping BVB on the top. They have just 10 gameweeks left with a crucial match on 6th April against Bayern, it will possibly be deemed as the title decider this season.
