UEFA Champions League: Juventus face Barcelona, Real Madrid meet Inter
The group stage of the competition will commence from October 20.
The group stage draws for the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League were announced on Thursday, October 1. UEFA's original plans were to stage the event in Athens, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, it was moved to their Nyon headquarters, where it went ahead without guests.
Defending champions Bayern Munich opened the draw as they entered Group A, while La Liga champions Real Madrid were drawn first into Group B. Premier League winners Liverpool drew a Group D berth whereas Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus entered Group G.
The full draw of the 2020-21 Champions League is as follows:
Group A: Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid CF, RB Salzburg, FC Lokomotiv Moskva.
Group B: Real Madrid CF, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan, Borussia Monchengladbach.
Group C: FC Porto, Manchester City, Olympiacos FC, Olympique de Marseille.
Group D: Liverpool FC, AFC Ajax, Atalanta BC, FC Midtjylland.
Group E: Sevilla FC, Chelsea FC, FC Krasnodar, Stade Rennais FC.
Group F: Zenit St. Petersburg, Borussia Dortmund, SS Lazio, Club Brugge KV.
Group G: Juventus FC, FC Barcelona, FC Dynamo Kyiv, Ferencvaros TC.
Group H: Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, RB Leipzig, Istanbul Basaksehir FK.
The draw has resulted in several potentially mouth-watering clashes, the biggest of which will undoubtedly happen in Group G. Both Juventus and Barcelona have been drawn in the group, which will see two of World's best players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will be playing at least two games together. Likewise, Manchester United will meet Paris Saint-Germain, while defending champions Bayern Munich will lock horns with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
The UEFA awards for the 2019-20 season were also announced during the event, and Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Kevin de Bruyne and Robert Lewandowski were among the winners. The detailed list of winners is as follows:
