Top five assist-providers in Champions League 2021-22 season

The list features some of the most promising youngsters in world football.

The UEFA Champions league 2021-22 season has recently concluded with Real Madrid emerging as the champions. Los Blancos earned a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the final. This was Madrid’s record 14th Champions League victory.

With the elites of Europe going against each other, the fans got to witness goals galore. We take a look at the five players with the most assists in the Champions League 2021-22 season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 4 assists

There is little surprise that the Liverpool Right-back made it to the list. The youngster is famous for his runs forward and his accurate crosses. Trent helped his team with 4 assists. He created both the goals in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid.

Trent and Liverpool made it all the way to the finals of the tournament but fell on the final hurdle to Real Madrid.

Antony - 5 assists

The Brazilian right-winger had a wonderful season for Ajax as he finished the season as Ajax’s highest assist provider. Antony provided five assists for the team from Amsterdam. His most memorable performance was in Ajax’s 3-1 away win against Borussia Dortmund where he provided two assists.

Ajax made it past the group stages but went out in the round of 16 after their 3-2 defeat on aggregate against Benfica.

Leroy Sane - 6 assists

Sane has been the most effective forward for Bayern Munich after Robert Lewandowski. The former Manchester City man has provided six assists and also scored six goals in the Champions League. Sane is a major part of Bayern Munich’s domination of teams. His two goals and an assist in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 away win against Benfica can be termed as his best performance of the season.

Sane could have contested for the top spot but he and Bayern Munich were shockingly knocked out by Villareal in the quarter-final.

Vinicius Junior - 6 assists

2021-22 was the best season of Vinicius Junior’s young career. He won the La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid and was one of their most important players. Vinicius provided his teammates with six assists in the Champions League and scored four goals. One of those goals included the winner against Liverpool in the final.

The Brazilian is still only 21 years old and the future looks bright for the youngster.

Bruno Fernandes - 8 assists

The player with the most assists to his name in this season’s Champions League is Manchester United’s, Bruno Fernandes. The United midfielder has eight assists to his name. Bruno Fernandes provided at least one assist in all the group stage matches that he played. The Portuguese tops the assists list despite his team being knocked out in the Round Of 16.

Despite his assists, it wasn’t the best of seasons for Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United. Unlike last time United managed to get past the group stages but were knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.
