The UEFA Champions League (UCL) is the biggest club competition in world football. Several star players are on display every matchday. However, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the competition in recent years. The two stalwarts are the top two goalscorers in the competition. They have also netted the most hat-tricks in the UCL.

The biggest clubs from top European leagues face each other to emerge as the European champions. Given the quality of the teams on display, it is difficult for individual players to stand out. But, many have been able to do so by coming good in decisive moments. While others have managed it by scoring a plethora of goals.

5. Mario Gomez (3)

The former Bayern Munich striker is fifth on the list. He netted three hat-tricks in the competition. All of them came for the Bavarian giants. Mario Gomez netted 24 times in 41 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

Gomez was one of the best strikers in the history of Bayern Munich. The German forwards won the Champions League in the 2012-13 season. He also won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles twice with the Bavarians

4. Filippo Inzaghi (3)

One of the greatest strikers of his generation, Filippo Inzaghi is next on the list. The Italian striker netted three hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League. He scored two of them for Juventus. The other came for AC Milan.

The Italian forward is of the highest scorers in UEFA Champions League history. Filippo Inzaghi netted 41 times in the competition. He is 11th on the all-time list. He won the UCL title twice in his career. Both of his triumphs came with AC Milan.

3. Robert Lewandowski (4)

The Polish striker has been one of the best players in the world in recent years. He won the UCL Player of the Year award in the 2019-20 season. Robert Lewandowski has netted four hat-tricks in the competition. The forwards scored three for Bayern Munich and one for Borussia Dortmund.

The Bayern man is among the top goalscorers in the competition’s history. Robert Lewandowski is third on the list. He has netted 82 goals in the UEFA Champions League so far. The Bayern striker also holds the record for the fifth fastest hat-trick in UCL. Lewandowski achieved the feat in 2019, with a treble against Crvena Zvezda.

Lewandowski has won the Champions League once. His only success came in the 2019-20 season with Bayern Munich. The Bavarians won the treble that year. They became only the second club in history to win a sextuple.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo (8)

The Portuguese star has been one of the most dominant players in UEFA Champions League history. He has won the competition five times. Ronaldo is also the leading scorer in the competition. Cristiano has scored 140 goals in 181 appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus in the UCL. He has netted the joint-most eight hat-tricks in the competition. The Portuguese scored seven hat-tricks for Madrid and one for Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.

The Manchester United star also holds the record for most hat-tricks in a single season. Ronaldo netted three trebles in the 2015-16 season. He also has the fourth-fastest hat-trick in the competition.

1. Lionel Messi (8)

The Argentine superstar is the joint-top in the list. He has netted eight hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League. All of them came for Spanish giants Barcelona. Lionel Messi is the second-highest scorer in the competition.

Messi holds the record for most goals for a single club in the competition, with his 120 strikes for Barcelona. He also has the record for most goals in a single UCL game. The Argentine achieved the feat in 2012. Messi netted five against Bayer Leverkusen.
