The Azzurri seem unstoppable as they make their way to the final game of the tournament.

Italy are one step away from lifting the UEFA Euro 2020 title. They overcame a strong Spanish side after winning the semi-final on penalties. There was nothing to separate the two sides after regular and extra-time, as the score stood at 1-1 leading to the shootout.

Federico Chiesa scored the opener for Italy, while Alvaro Morata brought the two teams level by scoring in the 80th minute. The game went into the tie-breaker and Jorginho scored the winning penalty, after Morata’s was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Roberto Mancini’s men are one win away from clinching Euro 2020, which will be their second in history. Following their impressive nail-biting victory in the semi-finals, here is a look at five reasons which suggest the Azzurri can win the final of the tournament:

5. Match-winners

The key to success for Italy so far at Euro 2020 has been their unity and team effort. The outfit have shown incredible togetherness without relying on any individual brilliance. This is the result of exceptional work by the coaching staff and the players themselves. Italy have an air of unpredictability about them, where any player can win the game on the day.

In the ongoing tournament, Italy have seen six different scorers coming up with crucial strikes. Furthermore, there have been seven different assist providers too, which says a lot about their overall quality. This fact makes the Italians strong favourites to go all the way.

4. Midfield duo of Marco Verratti and Jorginho

Marco Verratti and Jorginho played key roles. The duo has been delivering consistently in the tournament so far. They often help the team dominate proceedings in the middle of the park and implement their strategies.

While Verratti is the enforcer who works extremely hard by pressing and causing trouble to opposition players, Jorginho is the silent operator. The midfielders keep the ball ticking and no team has overcome their partnership yet. Jorginho showed incredible levels of calm while slotting in the decisive penalty against Spain. The duo can lead the country to their second European title.

3. Favourable record against upcoming opponents

Italy will play either England or Denmark in the final of Euro 2020. Their past record against both teams is favourable, therefore, the Italians will be backing themselves in the final game. While England are the favourites to reach the final, Denmark are on a different plateau in terms of motivation and could cause an upset.

In the past meetings between Italy and England, the former have won 11 matches, while eight have been won by the Three Lions and other eight resulted in draws. In the case of Denmark, the Italians have won eight games, while two matches resulted in wins for the Danes and other two were draws.

2. The hunger to win

The Italians look extremely motivated to finally deliver the European title to their fans. The last time Italy won the Euros was back in 1968, about 53 years ago. Their form in the tournament is peaking at the right time.

Italy were favourites to go into the latter stages of the competition. They have fulfilled the expectations off them and now have their eyes on the final. Roberto Mancini knows what it takes to win and their determination to end the European drought can take them over the final hurdle.

1. The unstoppable juggernaut

One of the most unbelievable records Italy have at the moment is their unbeaten streak. They have now gone 33 games without losing an international fixture. Their last loss came at the hands of Portugal back in September 2018, three years ago! Italy recently broke their own record of the longest unbeaten streak of 31.

They are only two away from equalling Spain and Brazil’s record of 35 games without a defeat. If Italy are to match and possibly break the record, they will have to win the Euro 2020 final. They are also on a 14-game winning streak at the moment. As it stands, this streak is proving to be a great motivator for the outfit.
