Top five most underrated players at Euro 2020 you need to know about
These players usually go under the radar but play important roles for their teams.
UEFA Euro 2020 will boast some of the best international teams from Europe. The tournament is regarded as one of the most competitive international football events for good reason. This year the European Championship will be live telecast in over 150 countries. Some of the most high-profile players will be representing their teams and will eye title glory.
However, there will also be some players who may not grab headlines, but do their jobs efficiently for their teams. These players are vital to their respective teams.
These underrated players sometimes do not get recognition for their contributions. But, they do their jobs diligently regardless of the praise or lack of it. The following five are the most underrated players, who will feature at Euro 2020:
5. Daley Blind (Netherlands)
Daley Blind will represent the Netherlands at the upcoming European Championship. The AFC Ajax player is a silent worker in the defence and marshalls the troops well.
Players like Matthijs de Ligt or Stefan de Vrij usually receive more attention. However, Blind does a silent job of leading them using his experience.
4. Andre Silva (Portugal)
The 25-year-old is usually left in the shadows during discussions that involve Portugal’s attacking prowess. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes dominate the conversation. Andre Silva is finally fulfilling his potential.
The Eintracht Frankfurt player finished second in the German Bundesliga scoring charts with 28 goals, ahead of Erling Haaland. Andre Silva is in the form of his life and he could be one of the players who take the centre stage during the tournament.
3. Antonio Rudiger (Germany)
Antonio Rudiger will hope to guide Germany out of a tough Group F, which involves teams like France, Portugal and Hungary. The centre-back plays in a three-man defence for the German national team and is crucial to their progression with the ball.
The 28-year-old is not a headline-maker when it comes to the best centre-backs in Europe but delivers consistently. He was instrumental in guiding Chelsea to winning the UEFA Champions League title. Germany will hope he can deliver on the international stage as well.
2. Jorginho (Italy)
Jorginho is another Chelsea player who usually goes under the radar. The holding midfielder does the painstaking job of covering for the defenders without the ball and helps in initiating counter-attacks. The midfielder is also adept at passing and has one of the best passing accuracy in the Italian squad.
Italy are one of the favourites to go into the latter stages at Euro 2020. They are undefeated since September 2018 and Jorginho is a vital part of their success. He shows composure during penalties and is a reliable figure.
1. Olivier Giroud
World Cup winner with France, Olivier Giroud is the second-highest goalscorer for France. He is five behind all-time record holder Thierry Henry and will aim to make the record his own at Euro 2020. Giroud played an integral role in France's World Cup-winning campaign and has been a regular member of the national team under Didier Deschamps.
Karim Benzema's return to the national team might limit his game time for Les Bleus but the 34-year-old showed he was up for the challenge with a brace against Bulgaria.
