We all wanted to win against Netherlands– Leroy Sane
The Manchester City winger wasn't picked for his nation's 2018 World Cup squad but looks to be set for a regular place.
The last game of the UEFA Nations League Group A between Germany and the Netherlands ended in a draw but the Oranjes were the real gainers from the fixture. The Dutchmen were required to ensure atleast a single point for them to top the group and they did. Germany were 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes of the game but a couple of goals in the last 10 minutes from the Netherlands changed the whole story.
Especially for the Germans, young Leroy Sane gave an impressive performance before they gave away the lead. He insists that Germany are on the path of improvement despite being in the team's worst run in four decades.
They had controlled the game for 85 minutes and two cheap goals spoiled Thomas Muller's 100th international appearance. Leroy Sane scored his second Germany goal at the 19th-minute mark, but it was of no use.
"Of course we all wanted to win the game. We were 2-0 up. It's a little bit disappointing," Sane said.
"But everyone could see how we've improved and that we're looking to keep taking steps forward. The fans can see we have a plan and that we're capable of playing really good football."
"Obviously we now need to keep going for the 90 minutes, to play strong and good football. Then everyone will see that we'll come back strong. At the end it's annoying to have played a really good game and to draw," he said.
