Spanish teams have dominated in the past when it comes to winning this trophy.
Real Madrid won 2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt to lift the 2022 UEFA Super Cup. The Super Cup is the curtain-raiser to the new European season will see the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League clash. It is one of the most difficult fixtures to qualify for because one has to win either of the two major European tournaments to secure a place.
UEFA Super Cup is a brilliant way to kickstart the season with a trophy. Bragging rights of being the ultimate European club is also on the line. Historically, several elite clubs from across the continent have won the trophy.

10. Juventus – 2
Italian giants Juventus has won the UEFA Super Cup twice. The Old Lady won the trophy back in 1984-85 for the first time. Their second triumph came back in 1996-97 when they beat Paris Saint-Germain 9-2 across two legs.
9. Valencia – 2
Spanish club Valencia also has two UEFA Super Cup wins in their locker. While the present fortunes of the club may be troublesome, it has a rich history nonetheless. The Spanish outfit won the trophy in 1980-81 and 2004-05. However, Valencia is farther than ever from winning either the UCL or UEL in order to win the Super Cup again.
8. FC Bayern Munich – 2
German Bundesliga powerhouse FC Bayern Munich have two Super Cup wins as well. Both victories are quite recent, in 2013-14 and 2020-21. On both occasions, the Bavarians made it to the Super Cup after winning the UEFA Champions League. The outfit went on to win the FIFA Club World Cup on both occasions too.
7. Chelsea – 2
Chelsea FC has two UEFA Super Cup wins. The London-based outfit is also the reigning champion after winning the 2021-22 edition following their UEFA Champions League win. Their first win in the Super Cup came back in 1998-99 when the Blues beat Real Madrid in the final with Gus Poyet scoring the winning goal.
6. Ajax – 3
Dutch Eredivisie outfit Ajax has won the Super Cup three times in the past. The club has a very rich European history with four European titles and one UEFA Cup (Europa League) win. On all three occasions when Ajax won the Super Cup, they had entered the fixture by winning the Champions League.
5. Atletico Madrid – 3
Atletico Madrid is the second club to win three UEFA Super Cup trophies. Their most recent win came in 2018-19 when they got the better of city rivals Real Madrid in extra time. Apart from this, the La Liga outfit won the Super Cup in 2010-11 and 2012-13. In all three instances, the outfit made it to the fixture by winning the Europa League.
4. Liverpool FC – 4
Liverpool FC is the most successful English team in Europe with four UEFA Super Cup wins. It also has six UEFA Champions League wins, the most for an English club. The Premier League outfit last won the Super Cup in 2019-20 when they beat Chelsea on penalties following a successful UCL campaign. The other three Super Cup wins came in 1977-78, 2001-02 and 2005-06.
3. Real Madrid – 5
It is rather surprising that 14-time European champions Real Madrid have won the UEFA Super Cup only four times. The reigning UEFA Champions League winners will aim to secure a fifth trophy when they meet Eintracht Frankfurt on August 10 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Their past wins have come during 2002-03, 2014-15, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Real beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to lift the 2022 UEFA Super Cup title, the 5th Super Cup title in their history.
2. AC Milan – 5
AC Milan is one of the two teams that have won the UEFA Super Cup five times. The Italian Serie A outfit won this trophy in 1989-90, 1990-91, 1994-95, 2003-04 and 2007-08. On each of these occasions, the Italian outfit came into the fixture as the UEFA Champions League winners. However, it has been more than a decade since the club won a European trophy.
1. FC Barcelona – 5
FC Barcelona are the second club to win the UEFA Super Cup five times in the past. The Spanish dominance in the UEFA Super Cup is due to the good performance of the country’s clubs in European competitions. The Blaugrana won the Super Cup in 1992-93, 1997-98, 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2015-16.
