USA vs Belgium : Previous encounters between both the teams

The first meeting between the two nations came during the inaugural FIFA World Cup in Uruguay in 1930. The United States produced an outstanding performance to defeat Belgium 3-0, recording what remains their only victory over the Red Devils. That triumph also helped the Americans reach the semi-finals, their best-ever finish at a FIFA World Cup.

The rivalry resumed almost seven decades later in 1998 when Belgium edged the United States 1-0 in a closely fought international friendly. The victory marked the beginning of Belgium’s dominance in the fixture, a run they have maintained ever since.

Belgium recorded another victory when the sides met in 2011. The Red Devils controlled much of the contest and secured a comfortable 2-0 win, extending their unbeaten run against the United States.

The two teams served up an entertaining encounter in Cleveland in 2013. Belgium showcased their attacking quality to secure a 4-2 victory in a six-goal thriller, continuing their impressive record against the Americans.

Perhaps the most memorable meeting came at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. After a goalless 90 minutes, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku struck in extra time to give Belgium a 2-0 lead. Julian Green pulled one back late on for the United States, but the Red Devils held firm to eliminate the Americans and progress to the quarter-finals.

The nations met again in an international friendly in 2022, with Belgium once more emerging victorious. A disciplined defensive display helped the Europeans edge the contest 1-0 and extend their winning streak in the fixture.

The most recent meeting took place in March 2026 and saw Belgium produce another clinical attacking display. Despite goals from Weston McKennie and Patrick Agyemang for the United States, the Red Devils ran out 5-2 winners thanks to strikes from Zeno Debast, Amadou Onana, Charles De Ketelaere and a brace from Dodi Lukébakio.
