The women's football league held by GFA will begin on February 21.

After the successful launch of the 2020-21 Goa Pro League, women's football is also set to return to the coastal state through the fourth edition of the GFA Vedanta Women's League. FC Goa will be one of the teams that will play in the league, whose winners will represent Goa in the Indian Women's League (IWL). The Gaurs earlier fielded a team in the competition in 2018-19.

Five teams will take part in the Vedanta Women's League this season, after the four teams that took part last year withdrew their participation this time. Apart from FC Goa, the other teams are Futebol Club of YFA, Goa United Sports Academy, Sirvodem Sports Club and Compassion Football Club.

“We are pleased to announce the GFA Vedanta Women’s League will begin from February 21. The fourth edition will have five teams battling for the title which is likely to be played at two venues," GFA President Churchill Alemao was quoted as saying by Herald Goa. He also assured that the league will be conducted maintaining all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as players’ safety is considered paramount.

In the opening match which is scheduled to take place on February 21, Goa United Sports Academy will take on FC Goa at the Duler Stadium in Navelim, Goa at 8:15 am. The second game will be held at the same venue at 3:45 pm later on the same day, with Futebol Club of YFA set to lock horns with Sirvodem SC.

The winners of Vedanta Women's League will get a cash prize of INR 75,000 while the second-placed and third-placed teams will have to settle for INR 50,000 and INR 25,000 respectively. Additionally, the team that will be crowned champions will also get an opportunity to represent Goa at the Indian Women’s League (IWL) later this season.

Earlier this month, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had announced that the 2020-21 edition of the IWL will take place between April and may this year.
