Kompany has been released from hospital after the club’s sports board member, Max Eberl, spoke to German television ARD on Wednesday:
“Given the circumstances, he’s doing well. He was discharged from the hospital today. That is the biggest and best news for all of us.”
After investigating the cause of his ailment, medical professionals determined that it was meningeal irritation, which is an inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Vincent Kompany had been battling a sickness in the days preceding his breakdown, which caused him to miss several team training sessions. He was in the dugout for Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal on Tuesday, but he did not attend a pre-game press conference.
“It’s a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication,” said Eberl, speaking before Bayern’s German Cup tie against Magdeburg. “I am very confident that he will be back on the touchline, operating at 100% very soon.”
Vincent Kompany’s return date has not been announced, and Bayern has stated that it would take “weeks, not days” for him to return to the dugout. Aaron Danks, an English assistant coach, took over in his absence and led the team to a 3-1 victory against Freiburg on Sunday and 6-1 over Magdeburg on Wednesday.
