What is Ballon d'Or BOAT Award?
French Football has launched a new award.
To determine the greatest Ballon d’Or season ever, the organisation has started a public poll called the Ballon d’Or BOAT Award (Ballon d’Or of All Time).
In the run-up to the London 2026 Ballon d’Or, the campaign has attracted attention. However, BOAT is not a brand-new physical trophy awarded to Ronaldo or Messi, despite the excitement surrounding the voting. Instead, it gives supporters the opportunity to select the significant individual campaign they wish to commemorate.
The ‘Ballon d’Or of All Time’ is abbreviated as BOAT. 10 famous players who have won the Ballon d’Or at least twice are part of the campaign, which got underway on October 1.

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere
Established by France Football on October 1, 2026, to commemorate the award’s 70th anniversary, Ballon d’Or BOAT is a unique public fan survey instead of an official, tangible trophy or regular Ballon d’Or.
To compare individual peaks throughout various football periods, fans vote for a particular Ballon d’Or-winning season rather than a player’s whole career.
A shortlist of 10 football legends is created by limiting the poll to players who have won the Ballon d’Or at least twice in history.
A historic photo of the 1956 Ballon d’Or and a chance to enter a contest for tickets to the 2027 ceremony are given to those who cast their ballots on the official Ballon d’Or website. Voting costs €1 per vote, with an unlimited number of submissions permitted.
The winner is expected to be revealed on October 28, 2026, after public voting took place from October 1 through October 27, 2026.
