When does LaLiga 2026-27 season start?

The Spanish league will return sooner than expected.
On August 15, 2026, Deportivo Alavés will play Getafe CF in the opening match of the LaLiga 2026–27 season.
While José Mourinho’s Real Madrid take on Espanyol, Barcelona start their title defence against Elche. Both giants of the Spanish league will open their new season on a weekday.
These two games, along with Atlético Madrid, who will play newly promoted side Málaga, and Valencia vs. Celta, will take place in the middle of the week from August 19 to 23. All because players from those teams advanced to the World Cup semifinals or final.
There is going to be no Christmas football, with a pause from December 22 to January 2. The league also takes a break for international windows from September 21 to October 6, November 9 to November 17, and March 22 to March 30.
When is El Clásico & the Madrid derby?
Meanwhile, the game between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which pauses the world, will be contested twice in the league. Once at Camp Nou on October 25 and again at the Santiago Bernabéu on May 9.
Atleti will face their neighbours and long-time Madrid rivals at the Metropolitano on September 20. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s side will go to the Bernabéu on April 4.

The new teams who earned promotion to the Spanish first division are Racing Santander, Deportivo La Coruña, and Málaga CF.
Racing Santander will play their first ever LaLiga match since the 2011-12 season, when they were relegated to the second division. Meanwhile, both Málaga and Deportivo La Coruña will participate in their first LaLiga matches since the 2017–18 season.
