Where will Como host Manchester United in UEFA Champions League 2026-27?

The two sides are set to meet in the UCL league phase this season.

Como are scheduled to play in their historic maiden UEFA Champions League campaign this season. This run will include a home fixture against Manchester United. This league phase meeting will take place on October 21, 2026.

However, there have been major issues regarding the venue of this match. Como were facing a big off-field challenge. They needed to make sure that their 13,000-capacity home stadium – the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia – met UEFA’s strict restrictions to be eligible to host matches in the Champions League.

Como, coached by Cesc Fabregas, had a stunning campaign in Serie A last season. I Lariani finished fourth, even above the likes of Juventus, and secured qualification to the UCL. However, they faced an immediate challenge, as their home stadium did not meet UEFA’s standards.

Facing a race against time to renovate the historic stadium, Como reportedly considered using Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium as its home venue. However, a massive £50 million refurbishment project, which began at the end of the 2025-26 season, was completed.

According to an exclusive by The Daily Mail’s Nathan Salt, the Italian side have been given the green light by UEFA to host matches at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. As a result, Manchester United’s players will be able to travel to and play at the picturesque venue on the shores of Lake Como.

The Italian side have invested large sums in the renovation of their stadium, which was built in 1927. A stand behind the goal, built ahead of the 2002-03 season, was demolished and replaced with a new concrete stand. New pitches were laid, increasing the playing surface by 2.5 metres.

The players’ tunnels and the substitutes’ benches were moved. Significant upgrades were also made to the dressing rooms and media facilities. Many things were added, including a new mixed zone, a TV studio, a press room, and 150 parking spots.

As a result of these significant upgrades, UEFA has allowed Como to host their Champions League matches at their home venue. Apart from Manchester United, Fabregas’ side will also host Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, and AEK Athens at their home stadium.
