The second division of English football has returned.
The EFL Championship returns for the 2026-27 season, with 24 clubs competing for three Premier League promotion slots, while more teams will fall into England’s third tier in May if they finish in the relegation zone in the EFL.
The English Football League Championship is the top league of the English Football League (EFL) and the second-highest altogether in the English football pyramid, ranking below the Premier League and contested annually by 24 professional clubs from England and Wales.
This year’s first round will take place during the weekend of August 14-17, with 12 matchups spanning Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City all got promoted to the Premier League last season, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, and West Ham United replacing them after demotion.
Promoted from League One, Lincoln City, Cardiff City, and Bolton Wanderers, while Oxford United, Leicester City, and Sheffield Wednesday were relegated after 46 games.
Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Southampton, Sheffield United, and Wrexham are some of the clubs likely to compete at the top of the league.
A 46-game championship campaign is a chaotic trip that is not for the faint of heart. The good news for Indian fans is that there will be significant coverage during the 2026/27 campaign.
