The Saudi King’s Cup is the second-oldest knockout tournament in Saudi football. The competition was founded in 1957 as the His Majesty’s Cup (also known as the King Cup) and was conducted yearly until 1990.
After a hiatus, the competition was relaunched in 2008 under the new title of King Cup of Champions, with the top six finishers from the Saudi Premier League, as well as the champions of the Saudi Crown Prince Cup and the Saudi Federation Cup, participating in the tournament.
In 2014, the tournament returned to a larger knockout format that was more similar to the original structure, with many teams started playing in the event, making the competition even bigger and more entertaining for Saudi fans.
The 2026-27 King’s Cup is the 39th edition since its inception in 1966 and the 20th since the competition’s renewal in 2008. The competition began on August 16, 2026 and will end with the final in May 2027.
