Anthony Gordon found the back of the net in the 55th minute in tonight’s match.
England faced Argentina in the second semi-final fixture in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15. The Three Lions entered the clash as slight underdogs. However, they stunned the defending champions by taking the lead in the second half, courtesy of a fine goal from Anthony Gordon.
The Three Lions had few clear-cut chances in the first half, but their defence also prevented Lionel Messi and co. from testing Jordan Pickford. After a goalless 45 minutes, the breakthrough came in the 55th minute.
Lisandro Martinez’s wayward clearance was intercepted by Declan Rice, who found Morgan Rogers on the right flank. The Aston Villa attacker floated in a terrific cross into the box. Gordon, who had made a terrific run, got on the end of the ball, poking it past Emiliano Martinez into the back of the net.
This marked Gordon’s first-ever goal at the FIFA World Cup and only his fourth goal for his nation, capping off a wonderful domestic season for the 25-year-old.
