Brian Cipenga scored in the seventh minute in tonight’s Round of 32 match.

DR Congo took on England in a tough Round of 32 fixture in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 1. Despite being heavy underdogs, the Leopards took a shock early lead, courtesy of a fine goal from Brian Cipenga.

It was terrific direct football from the African side. Chancel Mbemba switched the play with a good pass. While Noah Sadiki attracted the English defenders towards himself, Cipenga received the ball and had lots of time and space to pick his spot, finding the back of the net from a tight angle.

It led to moments of absolute elation from the Congolese players and supporters. Despite making their World Cup return after 52 years, the Leopards were brilliant in the group stage, finishing third in Group K.
