David Raum has emerged as an alternative to Lewis Hall.
With a deal for Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall looking increasingly unlikely in the summer transfer window, Manchester United have started looking at other viable alternatives to shore up their defence. One of the names linked with a switch to Old Trafford is RB Leipzig full-back David Raum.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, the 28-year-old, who is the current captain of the Bundesliga side, has a £34 million release clause.
However, the report further said that United will look to conduct further negotiations with Leipzig to lower the valuation to £30 million, as the player has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.
The player himself is reportedly looking forward to a switch to Old Trafford, having previously spoken with United regarding a possible transfer. This makes it a transfer that all parties would benefit from, making it one to keep an eye on.

David Raum’s career so far
Born in Nuremberg, Raum started his career with a local club before switching to the youth setup of Greuther Fürth at the age of eight. He made his senior debut in 2016 and became a key player in the second division the following season, making 20 appearances.
Across five seasons, he made 94 league appearances for the Shamrocks, helping them reach the Bundesliga at the end of the 2020-21 season. With his contract expiring, Raum sealed a switch to Hoffenheim.
In his only season at Die Kraichgauer, he made 32 appearances, quickly establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in the German top flight. As a result, RB Leipzig signed him for €26.00m, handing him a five-year contract.
He has gone from strength to strength at Die Roten Bullen, making 111 league appearances so far, scoring six goals. He was named the club’s captain at the start of last season, marking himself as one of the team’s star players.
Part of the German team from the U-19 level, Raum made his senior international debut in September 2021, playing in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Armenia.
He represented his nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, playing in all three group games. He also played in Euro 2024. Raum was a part of the German team that played in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing twice.
So far, Raum has earned 39 caps for Die Mannschaft, scoring a goal in the World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein in October 2025.
