Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 in extra time to earn a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinals.
After Lionel Messi delivered a flawless corner into the box, Alexis Mac Allister sprang at the far post to head the ball into the back of the goal. Argentina seized the lead thanks to a skilfully executed set-piece.
In response, Switzerland equalised in the 67th minute. Dan Ndoye sprinted onto a through-ball delivered by Ricardo Rodríguez behind the Argentine defence. He fired past Emiliano Martínez to tie the score.

Later, Breel Embolo was sent off in the 72nd minute after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Switzerland with just 10 players on the pitch.
Argentina regained the lead thanks to a second goal by Julian Alvarez in the 112th minute. Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez’s goal put the game to bed.

Argentina will play England in the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Jude Bellingham scored two goals to help the Three Lions defeat Norway 2-1. After defeating Mexico and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Round of 16 and 32, respectively.
However, both sides have been mediocre so far in the knockout stage, winning their games by narrow margins. England had to dig deep to secure a win against DR Congo, and a similar thing transpired against Mexico. Meanwhile, Norway’s game served as another tough outing.
But as always, they managed to find a win.
In a similar circumstance, the defending champions scored goals in the last minutes of their games to avoid losing in the knockout stage.
Against Switzerland, the South American giants were pushed into extra time. But they were able to come out on top with a 3-1 victory.
Now they face England, which will be a World Cup blockbuster game. Both giants will be vying for a spot in the final.
