Alejandro Garnacho and Ezri Konsa missed the PSG vs Aston Villa match tonight.

Aston Villa took on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup 2026 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, on Wednesday night. The Villans qualified for this fixture as the reigning UEFA Europa League champions, having won the title last season with a 3-0 win over Freiburg in the final.

Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia, and Morgan Rogers fired the Premier League side to the continental title. Now, Unai Emery’s men will look to win the UEFA Super Cup on their second-ever appearance. They emerged victorious the last time they played this fixture in 1982.

Emery understandably named the strongest starting lineup at his disposal. However, quite a few big names are missing from the squad. Alejandro Garnacho, who joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea, is one of those not playing tonight, as is influential centre-back Ezri Konsa.

In his absence, Villa started with 19-year-old George Hemmings on the left wing, while captain John McGinn started on the right. Buendia started in the middle, just behind striker Brian Madjo. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof and Pau Torres started in central defence.

Garnacho was expected to start the Super Cup match, having joined from Chelsea in the summer. However, the Argentine winger suffered a head injury in the pre-season friendly against BG Pathum during Villa’s Asian tour. As a result, he is undergoing concussion protocols and was not available for selection.

Konsa, meanwhile, featured regularly for England in the FIFA World Cup 2026, where the Three Lions finished third. He, along with his national teammate Ollie Watkins, have been given an extended holiday by Emery and missed the match.

Similarly, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who played in the World Cup final against Spain, has also been allowed an extended holiday period. He, too, is missed the match, with Marco Bizot starting between the sticks.
