Why did Amad Diallo & Mason Mount miss Hull City vs Man United Premier League 2026-27 clash?

These clubs met for the first time since 2017!

Hull City went head-to-head with Amad Diallo’s Manchester United for their opening game of the Premier League 2026-27 season. These sides met for this entertaining outing at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers are back in the English top division for the first time since the 2016-17 season. They finished sixth in the EFL Championship last season.

But by securing a win in the playoff fixture, Hull City earned their qualification for the PL. Oli McBurnie was one of their most consistent performers throughout the campaign.

On the other hand, Manchester United finished third in the Premier League last season. They are now back in the UEFA Champions League.

They have also signed stars like Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and others to add depth to their squad. The Red Devils were held to a goalless draw in 2017 against the same opponent. The Tigers have only won one of their last 16 matches against the Red Devils.

Why did Amad Diallo & Mason Mount miss out?

Amad Diallo was a late absentee from the squad due to a minor, low-grade knock. As for Mason Mount, he is still recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained during the pre-season fixture against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). These respective injuries kept both Amad Diallo and Mason Mount out of the Manchester United squad for their Premier League 2026-27 opener against Hull City.

Neither of these players are for sale. They will continue to play an important role under Michael Carrick.

New signings Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos started for Manchester United in the defensive midfield positions. Senne Lammens remains the first-choice goalkeeper, with Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw forming a strong backline. Bruno Fernandes started in the attacking midfield position.

Patrick Dorgu on the left and Bryan Mbeumo on the right flanks helped Manchester United control the tempo of the game. Matheus Cunha was the sole striker in the attacking front.
