Barcelona have cancelled tomorrow’s friendly against Preston North End, marking the end of their pre-season schedule in England. The Monday clash was part of the Catalans’ preparations for the upcoming season.
However, the game has now been cancelled. The club will now return to Barcelona for their next friendly games.
Preston’s cancellation was due to a shortage of available first-team players, according to Spanish daily Sport. The English team suggested fielding an under-21 squad instead. Barcelona disagreed, opting for a normal training session and cancelling the match.
Revealed why Barcelona game was called off against Preston North
Preston had an additional reason to think again. They face Huddersfield Town in a Cup match next week. They did not want to jeopardise any of their players.
The game would have marked Barcelona’s third pre-season match, following games against Europa and Birmingham City.
Kickoff was scheduled for Monday, August 3rd at St George’s Park in Birmingham.
Instead of playing, Barcelona will have a training session. Given the circumstances, the club intend to expedite its return to Barcelona by taking an earlier flight than anticipated.
Hansi Flick’s team returns to preparations for the next season. Their next match is a triangular competition against Udinese and Nottingham Forest on August 8. They will play 45 minutes with each club.
Then they will play Egyptian team Al Ahly in their last pre-season game. All before opening the new LaLiga season against Elche. They look to win their third LaLiga title in a row.
Several players who played in the FIFA World Cup 2026 are yet to return for training. The club will play their last pre-season game on 19th August.
