Manchester United’s Champions League meeting with Como might be postponed because of heavy rain in Italy.
The Red Devils have flown to continental Europe for their third Champions League game of the season, but major uncertainty now hangs over whether it will go ahead.
Como lies in the Lombardy area, which has been placed under an orange alert for rain. It is a stern warning of dangerous weather, and a request to be vigilant. Rain arrived on Tuesday as forecast and carried over into Wednesday morning, so the pitch has been pummelled by rain and the conditions are hazardous.
PA claimed 64mm of rain is expected before kick-off at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia and that only one of their four stands is covered, so supporters should prepare for a wet evening. But with the extra risk of lightning, Como are optimistic the pitch will hold up and avoid delay.

Manchester United have won and lost their opening two Champions League games, and under pressure, coach Michael Carrick shrugged off weather concerns in the build-up to the game.
“No, nothing immediate from me, we’re used to the rain,” he said.
“We’ll make the most of it!”
The Manchester squad have won only two games this season and face a Como side on the up and managed by former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas. They also boast former United player Willy Kambwala in their ranks.
Carrick’s team practised on Tuesday without six players, and it might have a big influence on selection. The likes of Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu were all missing.
