For their opening game of the UEFA Nations League 2026-27 campaign, the Slovenia national football team are locking horns with the Scotland national football team. This group stage outing is taking place at the Stadion Stozice.
Under the head coach, Boštjan Cesar, the Slovenians will be looking to secure three points in their first game of the European competition. The defence remains the main asset they should focus on. The Slovenia national football team have failed to secure a clean sheet in their last six matches. They have only secured one win in their last five games and will be under pressure for their next one.
The Fantje have faced the Scotland national football team five times before and they have never secured a victory against them. This will build up additional pressure on the hosts. Cesar’s men will be looking to establish control from the very first minute. A calm and composed approach is going to be the best way for them to handle the pressure.

Benjamin Sesko withdrew from the Slovenia squad for their UEFA Nations League 2026-27 games against Scotland, North Macedonia and Switzerland following an injury. He was also excluded from Manchester United’s recent clash against Fulham in the Premier League. The 23-year-old is still undergoing some tests to determine the severity of the injury.
After Sesko’s withdrawal from the Slovenia squad, Boštjan Cesar said, “This isn’t an easy time for Benjamin. He is going through a difficult period in his career, as we know he hasn’t suffered many injuries in the past. It is an atypical injury that requires time to heal. The most important thing now is for Sesko to surround himself with people he trusts and believes in, and for everyone around him to remain positive.”
“Because that is what he needs. He needs time. He needs good rehabilitation – and Slovenia needs him too, once he is fully healthy,” Cesar said further.
