The flagship tournament is being held in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup is already in the knockout stage. A total of 1,248 players across 48 teams started to battle it out for the prestigious trophy. Now only 16 teams are left and every remaining game is going to be an interesting one to look at.

The Mexico national football team are now on a four-match winning streak in the mega competition this year. They won all three of their group stage matches and outplayed Ecuador in their first knockout stage fixture. El Tri are the only one of the two teams that haven’t conceded a goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Mexico are one of the co-hosts and for their next game, they will be full of confidence, but it will not be an easy one for them.

Led by Thomas Tuchel, the Three Lions are facing challenges in the flagship tournament this year. They have put in top efforts to deal with their opponents and are unbeaten in the 2026 World Cup as of now. The England national football team are all set to take on Mexico and they cannot afford to make mistakes here. In their round of 32 fixture, the Englishmen made a late comeback to win the contest. Tuchel’s men are also one of the favourites to win the World Cup crown this year.

Is Mexico vs England round of 16 clash rescheduled?

One of the challenges faced by the teams this year at the FIFA World Cup has been the weather conditions.

Some of the games have been played in extreme heat, draining the players’ energy levels much faster than usual. There have been thunderstorms and heavy rain, causing delays to specific fixtures. We might see more weather-related disruptions moving forward.

There can be a change in timing for the Mexico vs England FIFA World Cup round of 16 fixture. This contest is set to take place at the Mexico City Stadium (Azteca Stadium) on July 05. The game kicks off at 01:00 BST on Monday (18:00 local time on Sunday).

According to the reports, the match would begin at 12:00 p.m. local time in Mexico City and 2:00 p.m. ET, instead of the originally scheduled 6:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. ET) at Estadio Ciudad de México.

FIFA has yet to give a formal explanation on this situation. Their regulations for the World Cup 2026 say that they have the right to “cancel, reschedule or relocate” matches “at its sole discretion”.
