Joao Pedro’s Chelsea FC welcomed Manchester United for their matchweek 9 fixture in the English Premier League 2026-27 season. These sides battled it out at Stamford Bridge.
Led by Xabi Alonso, the Blues might have looked good with their performances in the final third, but they have lacked consistency at times. In the first eight games of the league this season, they have secured four wins and have faced three defeats. Chelsea are currently sitting in fifth place on the points table, and a win might help them enter the top four.
Alonso is also dealing with the absence of some of his top players. Even though Cole Palmer is back in the squad after serving his suspension, there are still some of the names who will not be available to battle against the Red Devils. At Stamford Bridge, the Blues will feel some confidence and must use these conditions to their advantage.

The Brazilian forward was once again not part of the Chelsea squad. This time in their Premier League contest against Manchester United. He missed out on the third straight game for the Blues.
Jao Pedro suffered a thigh injury during training. He sat out of the league game against Tottenham Hotspur a week ago, before also missing out on their Carabao Cup tie at Liverpool.
While talking about Joao Pedro, Xabi Alonso said, “He has an injury in his thigh and he’s going to be out for a few weeks. Let’s see how many; we don’t want to predict on that. But he will not be ready for the next games.”
“Joao Pedro is a key player and we will miss him, but we have to be ready to deal with the injury, be competitive and try to win games with the players we have available,” further said Alonso.
Other stars who also missed out for Chelsea were Maxence Lacroix, Jorrel Hato, Emiliano Martínez, Reece James, Aaron Anselmino and Jamie Gittens.
