This was the first-ever meeting between these sides in a major competition!
The England national football team locked horns with the Norway national football team for the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal. This high-intensity game took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, USA.
The Norwegians were the ones to score the opening goal. The game surely started with the Englishmen having most of the ball control. They attacked well, but failed to fire the ball at the back of the net. It was in the 36th minute when Andreas Schjelderup came up with a sensational strike to break the deadlock.
The England national football team came under a big pile of pressure. The star-studded squad failed to test Norway’s defence to the limit. Harry Kane did not perform up to the mark. With more control of the ball, they should’ve done better in the final third. This wasn’t the case. The Three Lions were brought back to life after Jude Bellingham fired the ball at the back of the net in the final moments of the first half.

Why did the goal stand?
Ørjan Nyland came up with a goal kick and it seemingly directly hit the camera cable. The referee still did not stop the play and just two passes later, Jude Bellingham fired the ball at the back of the net.
If a ball touches the overhead cables or cameras, the referee should immediately stop the play. The play then must be restarted from the position where the ball last came in contact with the outside object. But the goal was not ruled out.
FIFA came up with an explanation for why the goal was allowed. They said, “have checked the data and no peak on the graph from the connected ball heartbeat sensor.”
Bellingham’s goal worked as an equaliser for the England national football team. The midfield sensation completed his brace in extra time and with that, the Three Lions went on to secure a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinals.
