Omar Marmous started three out of the four other games for Egypt.

Egypt have had a fairytale run in the FIFA World Cup so far. In the group stage, the Pharaohs recorded their first-ever triumph in the tournament’s history. They later recorded a historic victory over Australia in the round of 32, reaching the pre-quarterfinals for the first time since 1934.

Next up, they are set to face defending champions Argentina in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, USA.

However, the lineups of the knockout clash have been announced for both teams. While Lionel Scaloni has decided to keep a majority of his side unchanged, Hossam Hassan has made some bold choices by benching some of the top names.

One of his choices has left fans wondering why Omar Marmoush starts from the bench for Egypt in the FIFA World Cup against Argentina.

One of the top stars in the Egyptian line-up, Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush, has been benched for the side’s round of 16 clash against Argentina. Fortunately, the reason behind the Manchester City attacker missing the upcoming clash is not an injury concern.

Rather, it is linked with his lack of production in the attacking department. Instead of going with an attacking approach involving the 27-year-old, Hossam Hassan has decided to field a defensive playing XI against the defending champions in the crucial game.

Omar Marmoush started three out of the four games in the tournament for The Pharaohs. Despite getting more than 300 minutes, the Manchester City attacker failed to record even a single goal contribution for the side, which has been a concern for the African heavyweights.

The Pharaohs’ attacking woes have been visible, as they have won only one game in regular time so far. Against Australia, they again missed many chances and eventually won the game on penalties. Thus, Marmoush’s absence from the game is a tactical decision.
