As Barcelona take on Egypt side Al Ahly in their seasonal Joan Gamper Trophy, they will be without one of the signings in the game.
After Barça finalised a deal with Cityzens for Rodri’s transfer, Barcelona introduced the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup Golden Ball winner.
Under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Rodri has won everything possible during his seven years in Manchester. But with the departure of City’s long-time manager at the conclusion of the 2025–26 campaign, a new era is beginning at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, it will take some time, though, for Blaugrana fans to witness the spectacular signing in action.
Rodri was revealed by Barcelona on Tuesday. Before starting their domestic campaign at Elche on Sunday, Barça play the Joan Gamper Trophy against Al Ahly, the most successful team in Egypt.

Rodri missed the game against Al Ahly. He is not currently fit. He is likely to take a few more games to return to full fitness and make his debut.
Earlier this summer, there were rumours that the 30-year-old might have back surgery following the World Cup, which would probably prevent him from playing in the 2026–2027 season. At his unveiling, Rodri did, however, hint that he would be prepared to play as soon as possible.
“I’m ready to play now,” he confidently asserted. “The operation was nothing serious; it was an outpatient procedure.”
“I hope to be able to train normally tomorrow [Wednesday]. Whatever the manager deems appropriate. I just need to finalize the transfer and get under Hansi’s orders as soon as possible.”
In the yearly exhibition game, Rodri won’t be at risk. His remarks will, however, inspire a fervently enthusiastic fan base, who think the midfield player might be the final component needed for the Blaugrana to win the Champions League again.
