Todayโs UEFA Champions League rivals of Bayern Munich have two head coaches. Their appointment at the Norwegian champions Viking FK has an amazing backstory.
Instead of employing a conventional manager-and-assistant structure, the Norwegian football team Viking FK employs two head coaches, Morten Jensen and Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim, who share equal authority, duties, and decision-making power.
Together, they applied and interviewed for the position in late 2020 (they took over on January 1, 2021) and presented Viking FK with a joint leadership approach.

Rather than having one person handle every call, they divide the task evenly and combine their skills to handle people management, strategies, and training.
What began as an experimental structure has had enormous achievements, such as improving the clubโs reputation in Norway and winning the Eliteserien league title in 2025 (their first in 34 years), which paved the way for their UEFA Champions League entry.
Erik Nevland, the clubโs sports director, pointed out that although the setting is special, the teamโs consistent improvement under the pair eliminated the need to alter a winning recipe. The contracts for both coaches expire in 2029.

โI worked at a bank, he worked in the oil and gas industry, and we both coached a local team on the side,โ Aarsheim tells the Guardian. One exchange still makes him smile: โI remember us saying: โHey, one day we should coach a team together.'โ
