Belgium faced Spain in an exciting FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on July 10. The Red Devils are the underdogs in tonight’s clash against former world champions Spain, and they faced a further setback just before the kick-off.
Captain Youri Tielemans, who is the beating heart of the Belgian midfield, was withdrawn from the contest despite being named in the initial starting lineup. Hans Vanaken was his late replacement in the middle of the park.
Vanaken has been paired with Nicolas Raskin in midfield. Kevin De Bruyne, who was made captain, started in an advanced role, just behind centre-forward Charles De Ketelaere.

Although head coach Rudi Garcia did not officially confirm it, Tielemans reportedly suffered an injury while warming up for the Spain vs Belgium match. As a result, he had to be withdrawn from the starting lineup. The Aston Villa midfielder was not even named among the substitutes but was pictured sitting in the dugout.
His absence will be a big blow to the Red Devils, who are facing one of the tournament favourites, La Roja.
