Lamine Yamal started in Spain’s second group stage fixture.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is concluding with the final round of its group stage fixtures, producing unforgettable moments defining the sport for years to come. Spain are set for one of the highly anticipated encounters against Uruguay at Guadalajara Stadium in Zapopan, Mexico.

Spain and Uruguay are set to battle in a competitive match for only the eleventh time in their history, with their last World Cup meeting being back in 1990, as both nations played in the group stages, which ultimately ended in a tense 0-0 draw.

Manager Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that Lamine Yamal is fully cleared and highly likely to start against Uruguay. Doubts regarding his availability arose after the forward struggled with medical and fitness concerns related to his accelerated injury recovery.

Lamine Yamal was initially given restricted minutes during Spain’s earlier group fixtures to prevent any injury problems, as the player is currently undergoing hamstring recovery rehabilitation.

After intense rehabilitation, he was granted clearance to play by the national team physiotherapists after a quick recovery process. He made a successful return to the pitch as a 71st-minute substitute during Spain’s opening 0-0 draw against Cape Verde.

He was then featured in the starting eleven against Saudi Arabia, delivering a masterful performance in a dominant 4-0 victory, where he found the back of the net in the 10th minute, opening his World Cup scoring tally. However, he was substituted in the 45th minute to avoid any complications.

Spanish medical authorities reviewed his latest physical tests following the game, allowing the player to fully participate in the main team drills for their group stage fixture against Uruguay. However, Luis de la Fuente will likely manage his minutes and substitute him late in the match to maintain his full match fitness ahead of the knockout rounds.

Spain enters the final matchday leading Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with 4 points, with a win or a draw against Uruguay officially securing their top spot and guaranteeing their progression into the Round of 32.
