The Dutchman injured his ankle in Barcelona’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid
Just months before Euro 2024 starts, Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong sobbed after being stretchered off the pitch against Real Madrid.
Prior to halftime, Federico Valverde of Madrid challenged the Barcelona midfielder, who winced in pain. As soon as it became apparent that the 26-year-old could not go on, the former Ajax player showed his anguish as he was removed from the pitch. Both groups of supporters cheered for the Netherlands international before Pedri took his position.
Barcelona will definitely miss De Jong in the near term this season, but the Dutchman might be concerned about his availability for the European Championships, which begin in less than two months.
De Jong has played 212 games for Barcelona since joining the team in 2019 for an initial payment of £64.5 million ($80 million). He has scored 17 goals during that time. He has captured La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana during his stint with the Spanish powerhouses.
After this Clasico match on April 29, second-place Barcelona plays Valencia, while top-of-the-table Madrid visits Real Sociedad the following Friday. De Jong might be sidelined for some time.

De Jong will now be anxious about his chances of playing for the Netherlands at the next summer’s European Championship, which kicks off in less than two months. The midfielder is essential to his team’s chances of winning because the Netherlands was placed in a group alongside Poland and France.
It has long been speculated as to De Jong’s future at Barcelona. The Dutchman has been linked to some of the top teams in Europe, even though he is more than content at Nou Camp. When Erik ten Hag took over at Manchester United, he immediately made him a top target.
The midfield player for Barcelona was removed on a stretcher because he was unable to walk.
According to Relevo, De Jong had damage to his right ankle. He has sustained this ailment three times already this season.
He might miss up to a month due to the injury, which would essentially exclude him from the running until the end of the season. According to the source, “Frenkie could say goodbye to the season.”
