The Rossoneri are closing in on their first big-name signing of the summer transfer window.

Spain’s Euro 2024-winning captain Alvaro Morata had a mixed Euros campaign. The 31-year-old striker started in all of La Roja’s seven matches, but only recorded one goal and one assist in the process. However, Morata’s pressing upfront along with his link-up play in attack made him an instrumental figure in Luis de la Fuente’s setup.

After finishing second in Serie A last season, AC Milan are set to pay the €13m release clause in Morata’s Atletico Madrid contract to bolster their attacking options and kickstart coach Paulo Fonseca’s era at the club.

In the 2023–24 season, Morata enjoyed a fruitful club campaign, accumulating 21 goals and five assists across all competitions, guiding Atletico Madrid to a fourth-placed finish in LaLiga and securing UEFA Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

However, due to widespread fan criticism and the overall difficult times endured in Spain, Morata decided to look for a move away from the Madrid outfit in search of a new experience. He is up for a fresh start following a successful Euro 2024 campaign with the Spain national team.

With Olivier Giroud set to sign for MLS side LAFC on the expiration of his contract, AC Milan were on the hunt for a new striker as their priority signing. After losing out on prime target Joshua Zirkzee to Manchester United, Milan’s senior sporting advisor, the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimović, viewed Morata as the ideal reinforcement for their attacking lineup.

Reportedly set to pen a four-year deal at AC Milan, Alvaro Morato previously enjoyed a successful time in Italy with Juventus, where he won the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana titles.

AC Milan are also on the lookout for a new right-back in the market, with names such as Aston Villa’s Matty Cash and Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal doing the rounds.
