Turkey kicked off Euro 2024 Group F action against newbies Georgia at Signal Iduna Park in an exciting contest, with the end of game week 1 on the horizon.

Turkey were slight favourites heading into the match, and they showcased exactly that when they took an early lead in the 25th minute through their right back, Mert Müldür, who lashed it home on the volley. In almost no time, Turkey thought they had a quick-fire second, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for a tight offside call.

It took little to no time for Georgia to find the equaliser when Metz forward Georges Mikautadze found the back of the net just 7 minutes later to level the game and send the Georgia fans in a state of buzz.

With the game equally poised at 1-1, Turkey knew that they needed something special to break through the Georgian resistance. It was none other than the nation’s star boy himself, Arda Guler who produced that moment in the 65th minute of the match. The Real Madrid superstar hit a magical strike into the top left corner to put Turkey ahead yet again.

Despite taking the lead, Turkey continued to apply pressure in search of the crucial third goal which they eventually did in added time through winger Kerem Aktürkoğlu to put the game beyond Georgia’s hapless reach. Georgia dug in deep to get back into the match, but all their efforts went in vain as the match ended 3-1 in favour of Turkey.

Arda Guler’s potential Goal of the Tournament strike takes Turkey to the top of Group F for now, with Portugal set to face the Czech Republic in the upcoming matchup. Georgia displayed a solid showing in their opening match but fell prey to an opposition possessing superior quality.
