Adrien Rabiot's departure from Juventus opens race for several clubs to sign him for free

Adrien Rabiot was an instrumental player for the Old Lady.
Italian giants Juventus have officially announced the departure of French midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer after failed talks over a new contract. A host of top clubs are now queuing up to win the race for his signature on a free transfer.
Even last season, Rabiot and Juventus were in a similar contractual scuffle. The player’s deal had run out with the club. After long negotiations, both parties eventually agreed to a one-year contract extension until the end of the 2023-24 season.
With the 2024-25 season fast approaching, the midfielder and the club have decided to part ways, despite year-long negotiations. Rabiot is now available as a free agent and is considering potential options for his future move.
Throughout these 12 months of detailed negotiations, Juventus had reportedly offered the French international a two-year contract with an option for a third year, an annual salary of around €7.5m and the opportunity to be their new club captain. However, Rabiot’s camp held out for higher wage demands, potentially at the level of the highest earner on the team.
Last season, the 29-year-old midfielder was a key player for the Old Lady, making 35 appearances across all competitions while also bagging five goals and three assists in the process. His performances guided Juventus to an Italian Cup triumph and a third-placed finish in Serie A, guaranteeing Champions League football in Turin for the upcoming campaign. Rabiot also made five appearances in France’s semi-final run during Euro 2024.
With his availability as a free agent now, the race for his signature is wide open. A lineup of clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle United, AC Milan and Napoli are interested in signing the former PSG star.
Rabiot was high on the Red Devils‘ shopping list last summer, but the midfielder ultimately extended his stay in Turin. With a strong contract proposal, Manchester United could well beat other interested teams in order to add a dynamic midfielder like him to their squad this summer.
In his five-year stay at Juventus, Adrien Rabiot made a total of 212 appearances, registering 22 goals and 15 assists in the process. During this period, he won a solitary Serie A title, two Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup.
