Organizers don’t want us to win: Al-Ahli star Ivan Toney ahead of Saudi Super Cup final vs Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr

Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr will face each other in the Saudi Super Cup final.

Ahead of the match against Cristiano Ronaldo’s side, Al-Nassr, England striker Ivan Toney has voiced his frustration with the Saudi Super Cup’s organisers.

The Saudi Super Cup final between Al Ahli and Al Nassr, two Saudi Pro League teams, will take place in Hong Kong Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams are anticipated to have many well-known players, with Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and newcomer Joao Felix playing for Al Nassr while Toney and Riyad Mahrez representing Al Ahli.

Players from both teams shared their opinions about the cup final encounter with the media before the game.

As he did so, England star Toney made a harsh remark regarding the circumstances surrounding his team’s training for the match against Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

Al Nassr are currently modest favourites to win Saturday’s match despite losing the 2024 final 4-1 against Al Hilal, who were replaced this year. They withdrew from the competition after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Toney’s frank remarks before the game, in which he criticised the competition organisers for the treatment of his squad in Hong Kong, may help to explain why many people view Al Ahli as the underdog.

Toney hits back at the competition’s organisers for the poor treatment of his team

Before the game, the former Brentford player asserted:

“Honestly, The way we are treated is insane. They make us train on the worst training pitch. We are training after the other team (Al-Nassr) finished their sessions.

“We are the most hated team in the tournament. The organizers don’t want us to win.”

The fact that Toney’s team was assigned an 8 p.m. training session on Friday night in the same sports centre facility that their opponents had access to starting at 5.30 p.m. seems to support his assertions.

As evidenced by their 5-1 victory over Al Qadsiah in their semi-final match, Toney asserted that the less-than-ideal circumstances have simply served as fuel for him and his colleagues.
