The Portuguese star’s deal expires at the end of the season.
Due to the club’s difficulties, contract negotiations were halted, making Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr apparently more dubious.
After Al-Nassr’s 3-2 Saudi Pro League loss to Al-Ittihad in the middle of the week, just days after their elimination from the AFC Champions League semi-final to Kawasaki Frontale, Marca claims that talks for a new contract were halted.
Ronaldo was hoping to sign a two-year extension, according to the source, but these disappointing outcomes have caused the 40-year-old to consider his future at the club.
Since joining Al-Nassr from Manchester United in early 2023, Ronaldo has served as the face of the Saudi Pro League. Yet, the fact that his team is yet to win a trophy may cause the Portugal star to reconsider his future.
Ronaldo’s annoyance with the circumstances has caused Al-Nassr to consider their options on a renewal, according to the report, with a move to another Saudi team not being ruled out.
Ronaldo, who now has 934 goals in professional games, has claimed time and time again that he wants to reach 1,000 goals before he retires from football.
Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, who are now in fourth place and outside the AFC Champions League qualifying spots, will play Al-Akhdoud on Monday.
According to Spanish daily Marca, Ronaldo, who was born in Madeira, has just two months left on his present contract in the Saudi capital. Naturally, there are questions about whether the club’s executives will extend his contract.
Ronaldo, 40, was reportedly ready to sign a new two-year contract recently, but talks have paused a little as the team struggles to win important games and eventually trophies.
After Al-Nassr’s 3-2 loss against Al-Ittihad on Wednesday, Ronaldo’s team is not expected to make it to the AFC Champions League.
Ronaldo reportedly departed the stadium without changing after his team’s latest loss, in which Al-Nassr gave up a two-goal lead in the 94th minute. Ronaldo was furious about the outcome and, more significantly, the performance.
