Garnacho liked a tweet criticising Ten Hag for replacing him vs Bournemouth

Alejandro Garnacho expressed regret, according to Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag, after he liked tweets attacking his replacement during the team’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Garnacho was substituted at halftime with United trailing the Cherries 2-1 following a lacklustre first-half performance.

But after the game, the Argentine found himself in even more hot water when he liked a pair of comments on X from YouTuber Mark Goldbridge, who called the Garnacho replacement a “joke.”

Erik ten Hag has now verified that the 19-year-old accepted responsibility for the act. Earlier in the week, a United representative stated that the situation had been handled internally.

‘Alejandro is a young player,’ the Dutchman said, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry.

‘He has to learn a lot. He has apologised for it and we move on.’

Erik ten Hag has already dealt with disciplinary matters involving members of his team on previous occasions this season.

Jadon Sancho was carted off on loan to Borussia Dortmund after being barred from training and not apologising for insulting his supervisor on social media.

The 54-year-old described Marcus Rashford’s behaviour as “unacceptable” in November of last year after the English attacker was seen leaving the team for a nightclub celebration a few hours after their 3-0 derby loss to Manchester City.

Ten Hag’s focus is now on their Sunday matchup at Wembley against Coventry.

In an otherwise poor season for the Red Devils, it represents United’s last chance to win a trophy. Ten Hag emphasised that his team would not undervalue the challenge before of them in the Championship.

‘They are dangerous. They are in the semi-finals. They do a fantastic job over there and we have seen the game against Wolves in the quarter-final, the mentality is fabulous,’ he said
