The Algeria national football team are all set for their return at the grandest stage after 12 years, with the team considered among the most dangerous African heavyweights capable of pulling off a massive tournament upset. They arrive highly motivated to assert their tactical dominance and make a mark in the competition.

They will play their opening fixture against defending champions Argentina at the Kansas City Stadium in Missouri, USA. The nation’s most crucial player will be Riyad Mahrez, regarded by many as one of the greatest African players to grace the sport, with the player set to captain the Desert Foxes.

He will form a central partnership with Samir Chergui, combining with fullbacks Rafik Belghali and Rayan Aït-Nouri, with both players needing to use their pace to make overlapping runs.

Algeria’s midfield is largely defined by absolute physical power, relentless work rate, and a high-level technical skillset in the central space to disrupt attacking transitions. Nabil Bentaleb will be responsible for anchoring the central spaces, using his elite press-resistance and physical strength to limit the opposition attackers.
