Algeria starting lineup vs Jordan confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 match

The Desert Foxes are still searching for their first win of the tournament this year.

Algeria take on Jordan in their second Group J clash of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The North African side are coming off a bruising defeat against Argentina and will look to get a positive result tonight to keep their qualification hopes intact.

Vladimir Petkovic’s men lost their opening game 3-0 against Argentina, with Lionel Messi scoring a wonderful hat-trick. Despite some complaints about alleged fouls that went unpunished, the two-time African champions were well and truly the second-best in that clash.

Jordan will present a big challenge for the Desert Foxes. Although the Middle Eastern side lost their opener against Austria 3-1 and have not kept a clean sheet during a six-match winless run, they remain a strong team when in song. Petkovic will be hoping that his forward line, led by the veteran Riyad Mahrez, can get the better of Jordan and secure three crucial points.

Thoughts on the lineup

Luca Zidane, despite being partly at fault for two of Argentina’s goals, retains his place between the sticks. Hellas Verona wing-back Rafik Belghali starts on the right side of defence for the Desert Foxes, with Manchester City’s Rayan Ait-Nouri starting at left-back. Lille veteran Aissa Mandi and Borussia Dortmund’s Ramy Bensebaini start as the centre-back pairing.

FC Twente’s defensive midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki starts in the middle of the park. He is joined on either side by Nice’s Hicham Boudaoui and Bayer Leverkusen wunderkind Ibrahim Maza.

Riyad Mahrez, who surprisingly did not start the match against Argentina, returns to the starting lineup on the right flank. Eintracht Frankfurt’s versatile attacker Fares Chaibi plays on the left wing. Amine Gouiri starts as the centre-forward.
