12 Carrington graduates are heading to the World Cup!

The most prestigious footballing tournament, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is set to begin in less than two weeks. The stage is set, with nations from all around the world – from favourites to debutants – underway with their final preparations to compete for the coveted trophy.

The tournament will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, becoming the first edition to be hosted by three nations simultaneously. It will also mark the return of World Cup football to North America after the conclusion of the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

While nations serve the central role in the competition, football clubs worldwide play a crucial role in the World Cup’s commencement. For every player called up, there lie extensive efforts from the clubs to ensure the availability of players for their career’s biggest tournament.

Manchester United is one such club that has supplied an astonishing 12 players to various squads for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making them the 9th most represented side in the tournament. The English club had a dramatic season, starting poorly before making an exceptional turnaround under manager Michael Carrick to finish 3rd in the Premier League.

Beyond the senior level side, the club also promotes youth level football, operating an academy. The Manchester United Football Club Academy is the youth system of the side, producing some of the best established talents in world football ever since its inception in 1998.
