The UEFA Euro 2024 trophy can turn the history pages of England for the better.

Gareth Southgate has led the England national football team to the UEFA Euro 2024 final. They have had a tough journey even though their star-studded squad should suggest otherwise. The English football history may be rich but their trophy cabinet is lacking in titles and major honours.

England host the most watched and followed football league in the world, the Premier League. This surely is a good aspect for any country to boast about but success hasn’t followed them in international football events. To date, the Three Lions have only won one trophy which is the FIFA World Cup in the 1965-66 edition.

That was an epic moment as Sir Alf Ramsay’s led side defeated West Germany in the final. The game however wasn’t a smooth sailing one, as it needed extra time to settle the ordeal. Anyhow 4-2 was the final scoreline in favour of the Three Lions, which helped them take home the winners medal by the end of the game.

Since that historic feat of being crowned world champions, England have never achieved any more glory. Their conquest for a major honour continues even at Euro 2024 where they face Spain for their maiden Euro title.

In the World Cups, we have seen the English men’s team show better performances of late. They managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2018 edition. Apart from that semi-final appearance, 1990 was their last showing at this stage of the FIFA World Cup competition.

The job Southgate has done over the last few years has been commendable. The cherry on the top for his service to his great nation will be winning the Euro 2024 title after coming very close in the 2020 edition.
