Alphonso Davies emerges as latest target for Manchester United

The left-back will become a free agent at the end of the season.
According to sources, Manchester United are interested in signing Alphonso Davies, a star for Bayern Munich, next summer. The Red Devils want to finally solve their left-back problem. They are pursuing the Canadian as his contract is about to expire by the end of the 2024-25 season.
In January 2019, Davies moved to Bayern from his home country team, the Vancouver Whitecaps, for a then-MLS record transfer price of almost ÂŁ16 million. Davies has already made more than 200 appearances for Bayern in his young career, helping the team win five Bundesliga crowns, two German cups, and a Champions League trophy, so the investment has more than paid for itself.
The Canada star could be on his way out next summer, though, as he has less than 12 months left on his deal, which would entice United to make a move.
According to Florian Plettenberg’s report, United have well-documented left-back problems due to Luke Shaw’s fitness concerns and Tyrell Malacia’s ongoing absence, making “world-class” player Alphonso Davies one of their “desired” transfer targets for next summer.
Although United’s scouts have already learned a lot about the Canadian star, they don’t think they have a great chance of acquiring the left-back because Real Madrid and other teams are also vying for his services.
After entering the first team in 2019, the 23-year-old is continuing to grow at Bayern. He is now in his sixth season in the Bavarian first squad.
Bayern are open to returning to the negotiating table, but there are currently no scheduled formal conversations regarding a new contract with the player. The present contract ends at the end of the current season.
Since Real Madrid are still a strong contender to get Alphonso Davies, he could still leave Bayern as a free agent in the summer. However, United have placed their name in the hat and may attempt to negotiate a deal, hoping the terms end up reasonable and advantageous.
