Lionel Messi's Argentina confirm World Cup 2026 warm-up matches vs Honduras & Iceland

The South American giants will start their World Cup defence against Algeria.
The Argentine football association has announced that friendly games against Honduras and Iceland in the United States will conclude Argentina’s preparations for the World Cup 2026.
Argentina, the world champions, will play Honduras on June 6 at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, and then Iceland at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama, three days later.
This will be decent friendlies for the reigning champions, who will be looking to defend the trophy in the summer. However, they will face Iceland once again, having met them already in the 2018 World Cup group stage.
During the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Iceland, ranked 75th, shocked football fans by tying Argentina 1-1, which was their first-ever meeting at the international level.
Where will Argentina play their friendlies ahead of World Cup 2026?
Kyle Field, home of the Texas A&M Aggies and one of the biggest stadiums in the nation with a capacity of 102,733, will host the match versus Honduras on June 6.
The fixture against Iceland will then be played on June 9 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama, home of the Auburn Tigers and another world-class Southeastern Conference venue.
Following the friendlies, the La Albiceleste will regroup for the major event in North America, while Lionel Messi’s participation remains unclear in the tournament.
Argentina will play in Group J with Austria, Algeria, and Jordan in the World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada starting on June 11.
On June 16, the La Albiceleste will play Algeria to start their championship defence.
