Arsenal in advanced talks to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres: Report

The Swede has agreed to personal terms with the Gunners.
Arsenal are in advanced negotiations with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres. The matter is moving closer to a resolution, although a move for the 27-year-old striker is not yet finalised. Negotiations over the transfer fee continue.
The Sweden international has long prioritised moving to Arsenal. Personal agreements are in place on a possible five-year contract.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is working to find a quick solution before his team resumes preseason training.
Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 games in 2024–25 as Sporting won the Portuguese league and cup, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after players.
On March 30, The Athletic revealed that Arsenal were showing a lot of interest in Gyokeres, whom their recently hired sporting director, Andrea Berta, had long respected.
As rumours over the Sweden international’s future persist, Sporting president Frederico Varandas stated last month that the team has not received any offers for the striker and that his team will not give in to “blackmail and insults.”
In 102 games since moving from Coventry City to Sporting CP in 2023, Gyokeres has scored 97 goals. Gyokeres joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2017–18, marking his switch to English football, but he only played eight games and scored one goal for the south coast team.
Following loan stints at Swansea City and St. Pauli, he first played on loan at Coventry, where he netted 43 goals in two and a half seasons prior to moving to Portugal.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus suffered catastrophic injuries in January and February of the 2024–25 season, respectively, leaving Arsenal without a recognised No. 9 for the majority of the second half of the season. In their absence, Mikel Merino, a midfielder, frequently filled in as a striker.
So far in the summer transfer window, Arsenal have signed Spain international midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
