The Gunners will host the Bees on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the media on Arsenal’s recent injury news, Mikel Arteta has issued an update on William Saliba’s injury before the clash against Brentford.

The French defender appeared ready to start in the popular London derby in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, only to be excluded from the Gunners’ squad unexpectedly on matchday.

Arsenal immediately confirmed that Saliba had been ruled out with a knock sustained in practice on Saturday, meaning that Mikel Arteta, also missing Gabriel, was lacking both of his significant first-choice centre-backs. The summer arrivals, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie, were deployed at the back for a feisty stalemate against 10-man Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping that neither man remains out for an extended period, following a week of huge contests against Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. The Premier League leaders have a hectic fixture calendar with forthcoming matches against Brentford, Aston Villa, Club Brugge, Wolves, Everton and Crystal Palace before Christmas.

But there was some encouraging news for Arsenal against Chelsea: captain Martin Odegaard received more minutes as a replacement following his most recent absence, and star striker Viktor Gyokeres returned from the bench following a hamstring issue. Gabriel Jesus was also included in the team for the first time since January.

However, ahead of their game against Brentford, Arteta spoke to the media and updated on Leandro Trossard and Saliba’s participation in Wednesday’s game

“For William Saliba and Leandro Trossard, hopefully it’s matter of days.”

“For Saliba, this one is very bizarre injury… but hopefully it will be short time out.”

He also addressed Kai Havertz’s injury progress and revealed that fans will have to wait for more weeks for the return of the German striker.

“Kai Havertz is still weeks away.

“We are all desperate to have him. I mean it is a player that, personally, I love so much for what he brings to the team – his character, his personality. I see him suffer, being outside.”

How long will William Saliba be out?

Arteta revealed he will be out for a few more days.
