Arsenal lead Manchester United in race for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes

The midfielder made his international debut for Brazil this year
According to reports, Arsenal are leading Manchester United in the competition to sign Joao Gomes, a midfielder for Wolves. Throughout his first full season with the team, the 23-year-old has made an impression on Gary O’Neil’s side.
After joining Wolves in January of last year in a £15 million transfer from Flamengo, Gomes has appeared in 42 outings overall for the team. This season, Gomes has started 25 games in the Premier League. His strong play earned him a call-up to the Brazilian national team.
Gomes made his debut for Brazil in the March international break and appeared in a friendly against England. O Dia claims that Arsenal are favourites to sign Gomes during the summer transfer window amid interest from United. The midfield player, who has a contract with Wolves through 2028, is apparently something the Gunners will try to negotiate with Wolves this summer. According to rumours from last month, Man United were considering Gomes as a possible Casemiro replacement, with a reported value of £40 million.

Gomes has shown great performance against Arsenal’s London rivals, earning him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.
The midfield player helped Wolves defeat Chelsea 4–2 at Stamford Bridge and then scored twice to help them win 2-1 against Tottenham. Gomes’ first Premier League goals so far came from his brace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
